To that end, let’s celebrate with one of Kansas ’ greatest exports. After years of
touring as opening acts (and the subsequent blowing off the stage thereof) for
bands like the Peter Frampton, Blue Lobster Cult & Foghat, the 6-piece band
from Topeka released their breakout LP “Leftoverture” in the fall of ’76. CARRY
ON WAYWARD SON was everywhere that fall, and their follow up hit DUST IN THE
WIND from their “Point of No Return” release became one of the biggest singles
ever at the time.
Please forgive the poor video quality. I wanted to try to
find a version of the song from back in the day. I still recall them opening
for Foghat (at the dumpy Waterbury Palace Theatre 2/21/1976), the hijinx of my
drunken concert mate Zuck & a searing version of SONG FOR AMERICA which
first made me take notice of this up and coming band from the heartland.
