today. Do I care? Not really, but it does make a good segue to this sleeper
from Elton’s masterpiece: “Goodbye
Yellow Brick Road ”. I’ve always dug Davey
Johnstone’s eerie guitar solo played backwards from tape for the final mix.

Yesterday my old neighborhood buddy, Steve, shared
his recollection of his first LP purchase as a kid. It was Elton John’s 1973
“Don’t Shoot Me. I’m Only the Piano Player”. Elton has been around for so long
it’s almost hard to recall that this album was his first to reach Number 1 on
the Billboard LP charts. You literally couldn’t turn on the radio without
hearing the huge hits CROCODILE ROCK or DANIEL. The tune that still remains one
of my all-time favorite is the album’s closer – HIGH FLYING BIRD. Thanks for
