Alabama was admitted as the 22^nd state  on this day in 1819.

I’ve been a fan of the Drive-By Truckers since I first heard this tune. I used to think they were a heavier version of Blackfoot or Molly Hatchet, but I couldn’t have been more wrong if I thought Peter, Paul & Mary were singing background vocals. After giving their breakthrough release “Southern Rock Opera” – which contains this narrative - a listen I was hooked.
