The phonograph. 142 years ago today, Thomas Alva Edison
announces his invention of a way to record and play back sound in his Meno
Park, NJ lab.
For a guy who has collected music in almost all recorded
formats (NEVER bought a single 8-track tape!) this is an important date. Music
helped me through tough days. It reminds me of happy memories. It has been my
most faithful companion for my entire life. Mr. Edison, I cannot thank you
enough.
I am not as big a fan of ELO as I once was, but one of the
reasons I was such a fan is because of kick-ass numbers like ROLL OVER
BEETHOVEN the boys from Birmingham
kicked out. The show my buddy Bill Blake saw in Hartford the summer of ’76 was absolute
musical pandemonium.
