#2309 - JOHNNY SOUL’D OUT - 10/5/2019
If you recall the The Bus Boys at all, it is most likely for
their performance as the bar band in the 1982 film 48 HOURS (Eddie Murphy &
Nick Nolte). This song comes from their 1980 debut LP – “Minimum Wage Rock
& Roll”. It’s called JOHNNY SOUL’D OUT and rips the myth that black dudes
can’t rock. Not only do they rip it wide open musically, their lyrics are
clever as hell. The album is full of them and this won’t be the first time
you’ll hear them here. To quote songwriters Brian & Kevin O’Neal: “He’s
into rock & roll now he’s givin’ up the rhythm & blues”. Pretty racy
stuff for 1980 – pun intended.
