Allegedly, TP ad-libbed the lyrics on the spot to this balls
out rocker recorded during the studio time for “Let Me Up (I’ve Had Enough)” in
1986-7. To be a fly on the wall in the studio if this is true. Petty was
shooting for a more live sound which was a marked change from the previous
album “Southern Accents”. The track was recorded then but first saw the light
of day as a part of Petty’s first boxed set “Playback” released in 1995. This
boxed set contained 3 disc or rarities: some were unreleased for good reason
but there were some gems on this box that have stayed faves since I first heard
them. GOD’S GIFT TO MAN finds the band just jamming and having a helluva lot of
fun.
"Music was my first love. It will be my last. To live without my music would be impossible to do for in this world of troubles my music pulls me through" - John Miles, 1976
