FOR YOU.
SECOND WARNING: I’M NOT KIDDING.
Sarcasm. What better tonic to the material gluttony of
modern life on the day after Thanksgiving? Ans what better way to reflect today
than with the boys and girls of the National Lampoon. NatLamp, as it was known
back in the day, was a Mad magazine for the counter culture. It morphed into a
big money maker (Animal House, Vacation, The National Lampoon Radio Hour) and
ultimately shut down shop in 1998. NatLamp was the launch pad for a slew of
comedians many of us grew up with (Chevy Chase ,
John Belushi, Gilda Radner, Bill Murray, Tony Hendra…..). This particular piece
was a parody of a wildly popular spoken word novelty piece of the time called
The Desiderata of Happiness; an insipid pre-cursor to new age mysticism and
pretense. Personally this parody made more sense to me than the original, but I
have always looked at life from an odd angle.

EXAMPLE OF HUMOR. LIGHTEN UP!
I have provided the original version for comparison. The
original was recorded by Les Crane and released in 1971 peaking on the
Billboard Hot 100 Chart at #8. Original version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PNq_DTmVCWs
