#2499 – ROCKY MOUNTAIN HIGH – John Denver - 1/26/2020

Rocky Mountain National Park became the 9th jewel in the National Parks’ crown on this day 105 years ago.

OK this John Denver nugget may seem like an odd choice for a musical snob like me, but ROCKY MOUNTAIN HIGH will always have a permanent spot on my favorite 2500 songs of all time. Here’s why.

My folks, my Aunt Dora and I cane out to meet my sister and her family in Estes Park in 1971. We spent 10 days or so in Estes Park & Rocky Mountain National Park. Those 10 days started my life long love for Rocky Mountain National Park. I have visited the park many times in the past almost 50 years and I have never been disappointed with the splendor of the park’s 415 square miles, 77 peaks over 12,000 feet or abundant wildlife. Even though it’s being almost loved to death, long live Rocky!
