#2183 – TURN OF A FRIENDLY CARD (Parts 1 & 2) – The Alan Parsons Project - 12/26/2019

Mobster Bugsy Siegel opened the glitzy Flamingo Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada on December 26, 1946. The rest is literally history. It’s hard to believe commercialized gambling has only been around since 1946. Working in the casino industry for 4 plus years, it is impossible for me to ignore how gambling has insidiously crept its way into mainstream life.

Love these couplets:

“But a pilgrim must follow in search of shrine as he enters inside the cathedral.
There are unsmiling faces in fetters and chains on a wheel in perpetual motion who belong to all races and answer all names with no show of an outward emotion. They think it will make their lives easier but the doorway before them is barred. The game never ends when your whole world depends on the turn of a friendly card.”

When we were just out of high school, my fellow monks in the 3 Monks all had bands that we thought of as our own. Mine were Springsteen & Jackson Browne. Neal’s were Sinatra, Chicago & Rickie Lee. Roger’s were The Cars, Charlie and The Alan Parsons Project. To this day I cannot hear any of those bands without being reminded of those days and those dear friends.
