I was never a big fan of 80’s hair bands, but Van Halen had
something the rest of those bands didn’t have: Eddie Van Halen. You can argue
who was the best front man – Diamond Dave or Sammy – but the whole reason for
the success of VH was because of Eddie’s inventive playing. It is exemplified
on this tune which lyrically was filled with the standard stupid cock rock
clichés (“I got the tools to satisfy” – gimme a break) but Eddie’s deft,
elastic lightning leads took this song to the stratosphere.
"Music was my first love. It will be my last. To live without my music would be impossible to do for in this world of troubles my music pulls me through" - John Miles, 1976
