#2496 – THEY PLAYED BASEBALL – The Baseball Project - 6/2/2020

June 2nd 1935 saw Babe Ruth retire after 22
seasons, 10 World Series and 714 home runs. If not the greatest player to ever
play, Ruth was certainly the most influential. His name was synonymous with
baseball for decade to come. The next year saw the Babe became one of the first
five players inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Peter Buck & Mike Mills and auxiliary member Scott
McCaughey from R.E.M. got together with Steve Wynn (The Dream Syndicate) &
Linda Pitmon to form this band in honor of the game they loved. All the songs
from their 3 releases are baseball-centric covering the game’s history, heroes,
villains and clowns – warts and all.
