Even though the late, great Maurice Williams & Earth,
Wind & Fire are in the RRHoF & have an amazingly loyal following to
this day, I still think they aren’t given the true respect they are due. This
is the first tune of theirs I had ever heard and it still resonates to me
today. White’s well of optimism never seemed to dry up, even as he tried harder
and harder to top with each successive release. E,W & F put on a
magnificent show when I saw them at the height of their powers at theSpringfield Civic Center
in 1979. This studio LP included female vocalist Jessica Cleaves whose vocal
blends superbly with Philip Bailey’s on this track. “Head to the Sky” was the
only release of the band’s on which she appeared as a member.
