#2035 – FUNHOUSE – Danny Gatton - 6/16/2020



Roller coasters are amusement park staples. You would figure
them to be an invention born in the 20th century, but the first one
built in the U.S. but the
Granddaddy of them all still has its home on Coney Island.
On this day in 1887 the first “switchback railway” - as they were then called -
opened for business, thrilling the public. The classic Coney Island Cyclone –
which is still standing – replaced the switchback railway and still thrills
fans to this day.
