TAKE THE “A” TRAIN – Duke Ellington

The Duke was a true American master, changing popular music in the 20^th Century.

I’m not certain when the main melody of this classic became burned in my hippocampus, but it sure did. As I listen I can hear the melody pouring out of our old console Hi-Fi in the living room of my first house in South Windsor in the very early 60’s. This Billy Strayhorn composition is justifiably included in National Public Radio’s “NPR 100: The most important American musical works of the 20^th century” which is an interesting in its own merit.
