ROCK & ROLL STEW (Parts 1 & 2) – Traffic

#1243 – ROCK & ROLL STEW (Parts 1 & 2) - 10/26/2019

Traffic was one of those bands that was always changing personnel. This 1971’s LP – “The Low Spark of High-Heeled Boys” was pretty much their highpoint, finding the right mix of musicians and great material (which was often a downfall). Always known for exceptional playing, this release had a bit harder rock edge to it that did its predecessor “John Barleycorn Must Die”. This tune was one of the reasons. Co-written by new band members Rick Gresch (bassist from Blind Faith) and Jim Gordon (drummer from Derek & the Dominoes) is a snapshot of life on the road:

“L.A. to London is a mighty long time. Eight hours flying can bring you down.
Sitting near a suit who's a red-neck going, eyes are moving but there's no life showing”

1971
