#1182 – BYE BYE LOVE – The Everly Brothers – 2/1/2020

Isaac Donald "Don" Everly, the sole surviving brother from the legendary singing duo turns 83 today. When they coined the phrase “They don’t make music like that anymore” they were probably recalling the shimmering harmonies of Don & Phil that carpeted the airwaves in the late 50’s. Most of their songs were tales of teenage love gone bad, but were nothing if not bouncy and happy melodically. His brother Phil passed away in 2014.

The Everlys suffered the typical fate of many bands being troubled by drugs, money and end ego problems but are considered one of the cornerstones of Rock & Roll. They are cited as influences to artists as diverse as Simon & Garfunkel, The Beatles, Warren Zevon, John Prine, Mark Knopfler, Dave Edmunds & Linda Ronstadt. They reunited in 1983 with a somewhat successful comeback that was assisted b y many of the then-popular artists listed above. They continued performing live until well into the new millennium.
